Effective January 1, 2018 the Tricare regions were consolidated into two large regions, Tricare East and Tricare West. Services in these regions are provided by: East – Humana Military Healthcare Services, Inc.
In 2018, this was moved to the new TRICARE East region during the TRICARE regional realignment. On December 22, 2022, the Department of Defense announced the award of the managed care support contract for the TRICARE East Region to Humana Military.
In October 2001, TRICARE benefits were extended to retirees and their dependents aged 65 and over. On Oct. 1, 2013, the Defense Health Agency replaced the TRICARE Management Activity. The MHS has a $50+ billion budget and serves approximately 9.5 million beneficiaries.
